I am pleased to join President Gigi Simmons in welcoming you to this inaugural issue of the Newsletter of the Friends of the UCSD Libraries. The storied history of "the Friends" as one of UC San Diego's first support groups is matched only by the depth of their commitment to the singular resource that is UCSD's library system. We in the Libraries are deeply appreciative of that commitment!
We hope that this new communications vehicle will help keep you up-to-date on Libraries' activities and events, while giving us the opportunity to shed more light on the world of the Libraries below the surface. We hope you will enjoy learning more about the staff members behind the scenes who are making exciting things happen, as well as getting the inside story on important new initiatives and projects.
On behalf of the UCSD Libraries, I would also like to thank Glenda Winders, Chair of the Friends' Membership Committee and the editor of this newsletter, who so graciously and enthusiastically agreed to take on this major effort. We are all looking forward to making good use of the additional line of communication within the Friends' membership that this newsletter will provide. It is our hope that this communiqué will be a two-way street– I know Gigi and Glenda and the entire Friends' board will welcome your feedback and input.
