Scopus: UC San Diego Evaluation

The UC San Diego Libraries, along with the other University of California Libraries, are evaluating Scopus, a large and expensive interdisciplinary abstract and citation database of research literature and selected web sites developed by the publisher Elsevier.  The Scopus database is available for evaluation at UCSD until December 31, 2010 More information on UC-wide Scopus Evaluation is available here.

During the Scopus evaluation period members of the UCSD community are invited to consider its coverage and functionalities in comparison with similar databases, such as ISI's Web of Science and Google Scholar.

Given the current fiscal retraints at UCSD, and throughout the UC system, it is unlikely that UCSD will be able to pay for access to multiple resources with duplicative or similar content.

UCSD's evaluation of Scopus is being coordinated by Jeff Williams, Head of Collections & Access Services at the Biomedical Library.  Questions or feedback on Scopus may be directed to Jeff at j12williams@ucsd.edu or 822-2218.
