IR/PS Closure and Transfer Information

Due to budget cuts, the IR/PS Library closed permanently on July 1, 2011. As a result, the IR/PS collections, services, and librarians have transferred to Geisel Library.

Despite the loss of our library facility within the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies complex, the Libraries remain committed to supporting IR/PS faculty and students and continue to develop electronic and print collections to support the school’s academic mission.  Research and curriculum support services also continue to be available, although they are now based from the Geisel Library building.

IR/PS Collections

The bulk of the 100,000+ print volumes formerly housed in the IR/PS branch library are being consolidated into the Social Sciences and Humanities Library (SSHL) collections in the Geisel Library building. Circulating book and journal volumes now occupy the entire 8th floor of Geisel Library, and current journals, microforms, newspapers, and reference books are interfiled with existing SSHL holdings on the 2nd floor of Geisel. All held materials remain searchable within the Roger and Melvyl catalogs.

Library Consultations, Instruction, and Outreach

The IR/PS subject specialists have offices within SSHL, and continue to provide research and curricular support for IR/PS classes. Starting this fall, the IR/PS librarians will also be available for on-site consultations with IR/PS faculty and students at an office on the lower floor of RBC Building 3. Librarian office hours will be communicated soon.

IR/PS library subject specialists can be reached at:

Course Reserves

Print and online library course reserves support for IR/PS classes continue, with processing handled by staff within Geisel. Students will check out reserves books at the Geisel Library circulation desk.

Other Library Services

The library book return formerly located on the sidewalk between the IR/PS complex and the ERC Great Hall has been removed, permanently. All library materials should now be returned to either the Geisel Library or Biomedical Library or to the drive-up book returns located off of Hopkins Lane.

Additional study space and group study rooms are located within the Geisel and Biomedical Libraries and online reservations can be made for the group study rooms.
