Sociology

Collection Statement

To support a highly interdisciplinary academic program, the libraryâ€â„¢s core collections for Sociology focuses on comparative-historical sociology, the sociology of global culture, and the sociology of science, technology, and medicine. Also included are materials that support the core curriculum: social theory, and quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Materials on foreign countries are acquired as well because of faculty research interests on the study of foreign culture, interactions with other nations, development, and change, particularly on societies in Africa, Latin America, East Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. For this reason, there is much overlap with the librariesâ€â„¢ area studies collections.

Under the Library of Congress classification system materials for sociological research are scattered across many different call numbers. The information below is meant to convey only a general idea of call number areas and their topics. For specific call numbers, please check the online catalogs (Roger and/or Melvyl).
