Computers


Productivity Workstations (most of the library’s computers):

  • Require student, staff, or faculty login via Active Directory/ACMS account.
  • Offer a full range of research & productivity software, including Microsoft Office.

InfoStation Computers:

  • Are open to the public without login
  • Offer Internet access, but not word processing or other Office programs.

Wireless connectivity


Frequent users of the campus wireless network may want to register their network card. One-time registration allows your computer to be automatically recognized to use the wireless connection. The Libraries are wireless-ready with 3 wireless networks:

UCSD Protected:

  • For current UCSD students, faculty, and staff.

  • Encrypted with Wi-Fi Protected Access-Enterprise (WPA-E/WPA2-E) technology.

  • Configuring your laptop is required.

UCSD Guest (scroll to middle of page):

  • For visitors & guests.

  • Unencrypted service requiring daily user registration.

  • Excludes access to Libraries' online resources & course reserves.

eduroam:

  • Encrypted wireless service allowing members to use wireless services at institutions around the world using their home username & password.

  • Check with your home institution to learn if it's a eduroam member. 

  • If your home institution is eduroam-enabled, use your home username & password to connect to the eduroam encrypted network here.

  • Excludes access to Libraries' online resources & course reserves. 

Biomedical Library-Specific Details


  • 5 wireless-equipped laptops available for 2-hour loan within the library to faculty, staff, & medical/graduate students
