Greetings to our Library friends and supporters, and welcome to the fall 2013 issue of Domain. This fall has brought with it a variety of new beginnings and new programs, as we've completed our transition from "the Libraries" to "The Library." Last month we launched a new Library Channel on UCTV, the University of California's television station, which is viewed and accessed online by millions of households throughout California. I hope you will tune in frequently via the TV station (accessible on many cable and satellite stations) or the UCTV website: http://www.uctv.tv/
Our new channel will bring you a variety of events and activities, many of which will be filmed in our own Geisel Library. Please take a look at the article in this issue for more information about our Library Channel.
This issue of Domain includes a wrap-up and photographs from our Dinner in the Library event, the talk from which was also taped and can be viewed on our UCTV channel. Those of you who missed author Jay Parini's excellent talk, just go to our channel page and watch the video of Jay's talk in its entirety: http://www.uctv.tv/library-channel/ Also in this issue, we introduce a new column, "First Person." This feature will consist of a librarian, faculty member, student, or member of the community providing commentary on an item from our collections. We are pleased to kick off this new feature with an article by Ross Frank, a professor of Ethnic Studies at the University, who shares his opinions with us about the Fales-Freeman Brulé Ledger, one of the marvelous ledger books created by Plains Indians in the 19th century. I hope you enjoy this issue of Domain.
