Rancho Bernardo

Rancho Bernardo, referred to as “RB” by its local residents, is a family-friendly community in northern San Diego.  This sprawling area consists of affluent homes, shopping malls, golf courses, and office parks.  Interestingly, it is the headquarters of Sony U.S., the first Japanese factory in the United States.  It is also home to the Rancho Bernardo Winery, the oldest operating winery in San Diego County.  The cost of living and home value is higher than state averages.

What Staff are Saying:

  • This community was rated as having the best access to grocery stores and shopping malls.  Residents also highly rated the quality of schools and bike-friendly roads in Rancho Bernardo.  There were low ratings for its accessibility to the beach and public transportation.  The traffic and commute to and from work was also rated quite poorly.

  • “Access to nature -- hiking, trails, canyon behind the house where I can see trees, birds, etc.”
  • “Rancho Bernardo was senior community at one time. It is not any more. It is a small community in itself. Housing is affordable especially for middle ages group. We have Fourth of July parade passing through our streets and have street fair in the summer. It is nice neat community.”
