East County
Between the beaches of San Diego and mountains of Alpine lay the cities of East County. The East County encompasses the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Santee, as well as part of the incorporated and un-incorporated areas of the city of San Diego.
Golf, hiking, paragliding, biking, fishing and climbing are all activities practiced throughout the region.
Many people move to the eastern part of the county because homes and rent tend to be cheaper, there is often less congestion, and for those who seek it, there is a greater availability of homes with large lots of land. The further east you go, the more likely you are to find properties that will accommodate horses and other livestock or pets.
The disadvantage for many is that the east county is significantly hotter during the long summer months (10-20 degrees hotter than at the coast).
