SAGE
What is Sage?

Sage is the UCSD Library's gateway to the Web. It's not an acronym: think "sage" for "wise" or "wise person".  See the entry in Roget's Thesaurus.

Sage is a database and search engine for the high quality WWW and other electronic resources that have been selected by UCSD library subject specialists as being valuable for research by students, faculty and staff. It includes websites, electronic journals, electronic books and reports, and databases of all types.

How Do I Search Sage?
You may browse by academic subject, and view a list of Web resources for that subject.
These resources are arranged on the page by more than 50 different "types": article databases, encyclopedias, jobs, news, people, pictures ... even a type called "fun things".
You can also search Sage by keywords.  This will bring up not only a list of good websites that we have selected for you, but also additional web pages which those sites are pointing to, and even informational pages about our own library services.

Think of Sage as a resource like Alta Vista or Yahoo, with quality control added by librarians familiar with UCSD's scholarly and scientific programs.

For more information on using Sage, see our Search Hints page.

Not An Acronym?
Sage is not an acronym. You may be surprised to learn that Roger and MELVYL aren't acronyms either, but named after Roger Revelle (UCSD's founder) and MELVYL Dewey (founder of modern librarianship).
