Top Ten Things to Know About the UC San Diego Library

Welcome Tritons! Whether you’re a new or returning student, a faculty member or a researcher, this is your library. You have a voice and a place here. We want to support both your academic success and your curiosity. 

Start your Fall Quarter off right by learning how to save time using library resources and services.

1. There are two libraries on campus.
The UC San Diego Library has two library buildings – Geisel Library and Biomedical Library. Each are located on opposite ends of Library Walk, both are available to serve your study and research needs. 

2. The Library is here for you, anytime, anywhere.
The library is open 65.5 hours each week and our online resources never sleep! Our website has guides to help you get started with your research, information on holiday closures, and so much more. You can access our online resources 24/7 from off-campus.

3. Sign up for a Welcome Week Tour.
Named in honor of Audrey and Theodor Seuss Geisel, the Geisel Library building is a UCSD landmark. Get acquainted with the wide variety of study spaces, collections, equipment, and amenities we offer. 

4. Got questions? Ask a Librarian!
By chat, email, text, phone, walk-in, or appointment, librarians are here to help! Check all your options for research assistance here.

5. Need technology? We have it.
Borrow tech gadgets! Geisel’s Tech Lending Program allows you to checkout essential items like chargers, cables, video adapters, headphones, bookstands, and lamps. You’ll also find fun gadgets like GoPro cameras, projectors, and tripods. 

6. Book study rooms with the touch of a button.
Finding a space on campus to collaborate with classmates can be tough. The Library has dozens of rooms in both buildings where you can work on group projects or study together. Reserve one now!

7. Explore Geisel’s Digital Media Lab.
The DML is an exciting high-tech space where you can use 3D printers, edit videos, build apps, get assistance with multimedia projects, and much more. An open house for students will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 10am – 5pm.

8. Find a quiet study space at the Graduate Study Lounge.
The Biomedical Library Building is home to a 24-hour lounge for graduate and professional students in all disciplines (advance registration required). The room offers tables, comfortable seating, computers, and a printer. The Geisel Library offers 48 lockers for graduate students (reservation is required). Request one here.

10. Looking for textbooks?
The Library may have textbooks on Course Reserves that you can check out for three hours. There are also some e-books, articles, and streaming films available online. It could save you significant money!
