Geisel’s 8th Floor Makeover Will Benefit Student Experience

Welcome back Tritons! While you were off campus enjoying your summer, we’ve been busy planning for renovations happening in Geisel Library this fall.

Shovels are ready and work is underway! In preparation for construction, Geisel Library’s 8th floor closed on Sept. 22 and will remain closed until further notice. We’re expecting the project to wrap up sometime in Winter Quarter 2018. Very exciting!

Here’s a summary of the updates and what you can expect if you visit the Geisel Library over the Fall Quarter.

1. It’s all about that space …
We’re creating an updated, modern space for individual study on Geisel’s 8th floor. Stylish, comfortable, and practical furniture will be incorporated into our forward-thinking design. We love it! Hope you love it, too.

2. Restroom will get some much-needed TLC
We’re adding ADA-accessible and gender-neutral restrooms on each floor throughout Geisel’s tower. But don’t panic yet, throughout the renovation period, floors 4 – 7 will remain open, and there will be access to restrooms on each floor at all times (Phew!) We anticipate the restroom renovations to continue through Winter Quarter.

3. Find a peaceful spot to study on the 7th floor
Geisel’s 7th floor will serve as the new, temporary, silent study floor during the closure of the 8th floor, and the Biomedical Library Building has been declared a Quiet Building indefinitely.

4. Construction hours
Generally, construction will occur in one shift, from 6:00am to 3:00pm. Exceptions may occur and Library staff will notify users in advance when possible.

5. Where did Geisel’s 8th floor materials go?
The collection of oversized materials that was on Geisel’s 8th floor has been moved to the 6th floor. The Roger catalog can be used to find the current locations of any books.
