That new car(pet) smell!

The new carpet is in on the first floor at the Biomedical Library and it looks so much better.  The furniture and reference collection are being moved back into place this morning and we are getting back to normal.  As of 9:00 am, the public-use computers have not yet been set up, but they’ll be back up soon

Carpet Project – Library Closed August 11-12

The Biomedical Library will be closed on the weekend of August 11-12, as the carpet in the lobby and public computer areas is being replaced.  This carpet has not worn as well as expected and the excessive stains simply will not come out despite repeated intensive cleaning.

On August 9-10 there will be significant disruption on the 1st floor as we move all the furniture and public computers out of that area – we do have some public computers on the 2nd floor and UCSD users can use the computers in the Information Commons area.

We regret the inconvenience.  The Geisel Library will be open as usual, and the Graduate Study will also be open for authorized users.

Clock trouble…

Please note that a few of our “smart” clocks that are supposed to synchronize with a time server for constant accuracy have prematurely moved back to Standard Time and are showing time one hour earlier than they should.   Standard Time resumes for real on November 1.   So if you get really engrossed in studying, don’t be caught late with a reserve item or late for class!

We apologize for any inconvenience to our users.  For immediate help during the closed hours please contact the librarians via telephone or email.

Group Study Soundproofing

This week the “sunny” 2nd floor group study rooms 223-230 are getting their upper interior window panels double-glazed for better sound insulation.  Because of the work and fumes from the sealants, we will have between 2 – 4 of those rooms out of commission each day this week.   We know the rooms are popular right now but we are doing this work in response to your feedback about noise, and we wanted to get the work order in while we still have the funds! Our primary concern is to provide a safe and healthy environment so if there are lingering fumes, you may see some rooms still closed off after the work crews have gone for the day.

BML Media Room – up and running!

The BML Media Room came online last fall and is up and running in our Information Commons area and is waiting for your business!  We’ve got a nice flatbed scanner with attachments for slides and transparencies, the Adobe CS3 suite, Dreamweaver, video and audio editing and a webcam.  We’re not trying to take the place of the higher-end equipment at the Media Center or the professional services offered by VMG, but it’s available for all UCSD students, faculty and staff at no cost on a do-it-yourself basis.  Come by and check it out!
