Many thanks to John at SANDAG for making this data accessible! Here’s the info on it per John: Census data for San Diego are now available on the SANDAG website. Go to Census Data Online and look under “2010 Census Redistricting Data”. We have “filtered” the Census Bureau’s Redistricting Data from hundreds of fields to: total population; eight race categories; and three housing unit fields. The data are available as zipped Excel files. The census geographies are tracts and blocks. Also available are SANDAG Subregional Areas and Major Statistical Areas. This summer, the Census Bureau plans to release Demographic Data (age, sex, income). SANDAG will again “filter” the data and post selected information in our Profile Warehouse.
You can download matching shapefiles from the SANDAG GIS Downloads. Look for “2010 Census Geography” under Administrative Boundaries. The TIGER/Line shapefile data are projected from longitude-latitude to local California State Plane Coordinates. This is “raw” unadjusted TIGER shapefiles. We are in the process of adjusting some block boundaries to better fit local GIS layers (parcels, municipal boundaries, etc…). If you want or need the original TIGER shapefiles, please go to 2010 Census TIGER/Line Shapefiles Main.
Note: If you are using block-level data, please contact me. I am happy to share my experience concerning some of the strangeness (e.g. census voting districts).
