Science is predicated on trust. Confidence in the ethical and responsible conduct of others is the basis of scientific work. A new exhibit at the Science & Engineering Library features some of the elements of scientific integrity: data management, collaboration, publication, whistle-blowing, and social responsibility. Also featured are several prominent cases of scientific fraud, including Korean stem cell fraud, falsification of data by a Lucent Technologies researcher, and Piltdown Man. Books from the S&E Library’s collection on scientific ethics can also be viewed. This is a partner exhibit to the SSHL display on plagiarism. Through January 2009.
