5. Searching

  • Basic: Enter keyword(s) in search box on main page. This works just like a Google search, doesn't require a certain word order or capitalization. We recommend searching All Collections in a keyword search. If the results are very large simply add additional keywords in the search box.
  • Advanced: The advanced search button is on the main page. Advanced search allows AND, OR, and NOT searches and limits to artist or title fields as well as date, geographic, types of mediums and collection limits.

6. Classroom Presentation Tools

The Offline Image Viewer (OIV) is available to download from ARTstor*. To download the OIV go to Tools on the ARTstor main page and choose Download offline presentation tool. Slides may include text, images, detailed zooms, and shapes. The OIV is recommended over PowerPoint because one can download multiple images at one time. PowerPoint or other image presentation tools can be used with ARTstor images but each image must be downloaded separately.

7. Saving Image Groups

To use images in the Offline Image Viewer (OIV) users may save images by clicking once on the image itself (a dark border will appear around the image). After choosing your images go to Organize on the tool bar and choose save selected images to group. Name and save the image group to My Work Folder.

8. Downloading an Image

Images may be downloaded from ARTstor for use in additional presentation tools (PPT, Keynote etc.). Double click on the image to be saved. The image will open and at the bottom right hand corner a save icon appears. Click on the icon to accept the terms and conditions button and save jpeg.

9. Saving Groups to the Offline Image Viewer (OIV)

Open the OIV. From Insert choose Image Group(s) from ARTstor and add your email address and ARTstor password, click Next and then My Work Folder. Select your image group and download into the OIV. To begin slide show double click on first image.

10. Citations

To cite images select image(s) or an image group, go to Tools and choose Save Citations for Selected Images. Citations can be exported directly to EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, or RefWorks. Under Tools choose View and Export Citations.

* Note: the OIV must be re-authenticated every 120 days. To re-authenticate go to Help and choose Authenticate OIV add email and ARTstor password to authenticate.
