Bibliographic Software Tips from BML

Bibliographic Software at UCSD

There are a number of options for managing bibliographies available. The libraries offer support and instruction for three of these options:

  • EndNote - desktop software you buy, available for PC and Mac.
  • Refworks - a web-based tool that's easy to get started with.
  • EndNote Web - the newest entry, a web-based tool from the makers of EndNote.

Don't know what to use? RefWorks and EndNote Web are both Web-based and available at no cost to UCSD students, faculty and staff. EndNote desktop software does cost money, but you can download a free trial to test it out. There's a nice comparison chart available from Yale University that can help you decide - we are working on one of our own, but the information is basically similar. .

Already have something else? The libraries have some familiarity with some other tools in this area including Reference Manager, Pro-Cite, and Zotero. If you use one of these and are having trouble, we can try to get you un-stuck, but your best bet will usually be to contact the vendor.
