The Biomedical Library’s digital and print collection supports research and teaching in a wide variety of biological science disciplines at UCSD. Some of these core research areas include biochemistry, biophysics, cell and developmental biology, ecology, behavior, evolution, genetics, molecular biology, and neurobiology. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of many of these disciplines, support is also provided by the collections and services of the Science & Engineering Library and Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library. Because of the high cost of information resources, primarily electronic journals, needed to support these disciplines, the Biomedical Library works closely with faculty to prioritize need for resources to ensure the most value for UCSD.
The Biomedical Library's’ digital and print collections support patient care, research and teaching at the UCSD Medical Centers, clinics, and School of Medicine. As the only biomedical library in the San Diego area, the Library provides a comprehensive and high-quality biomedical collection for healthcare providers and researchers throughout San Diego. Because of the growing cost of information resources, the Biomedical Library works closely with the other UC Health Science Libraries to collaboratively purchase information resources.
The Biomedical Library's’ digital and print collections support research, teaching, and patient care at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Pharmacists, and pharmaceutical researchers are especially heavy users of reference and research based information resources, and the Libraries work closely with the faculty and students to ensure investment in the best possible resources. As the only biomedical library in the San Diego area, the Library provides a comprehensive and high-quality biomedical collection that supports the pharmaceutical development activities throughout San Diego.
