Graduate Study Room Policy

The Biomedical Library provides the Graduate Study for UCSD graduate and professional students to study at all hours of the day and night.

To ensure safety and security, the following policies apply:

  • Eligible Users: Only currently enrolled UCSD graduate or professional school students.
    • All users must have in their possession a valid UCSD Graduate or Professional School Campus Card that clearly indicates graduate or professional school student status while using the Graduate Study.  Upon request you must show your valid Campus Card to Library Staff, Campus Police or other campus security officers to verify eligibility.
  • Hours: 24 hours/day, 7 days a week excluding campus wide closures.
  • Computing Facilities: The Graduate Study has four ACS computers. Login is required. A network printer is also available.
  • Access: All currently enrolled UCSD graduate or professional school students may obtain an access card at the Biomedical Library’s service desk with presentation of a valid UCSD graduate or professional school campus card that clearly indicates graduate or professional school student status. Allow 24 hours for card issuance.
  • Room Use: The Graduate Study is for quiet use only. No scheduled meetings, events, or any other functions may be held in the Graduate Study. Please use your cell phones in the breezeway or outside.
  • Food and Drink: The Biomedical Library's food and drink policy applies to this area. In compliance with California State Law, UCSD policy prohibits the consumption of alcohol.
  • Sleeping: University policy (PPM 516-10.3) restricts library areas from being used for sleeping or living quarters. Camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags) & furniture arrangements designed for sleeping are not permitted.
  • Security: All students should use their own card to enter the breezeway and the Graduate Study. Do not provide access to the Graduate Study to unauthorized individuals at any time. Do not prop open doors or prevent the normal operation of the doors to the Graduate Study at any time. For security problems or emergencies, contact Campus Police at 534-4357 or 911 (emergencies).
  • Videocameras in this area provide a record of activity. Cameras may or may not be monitored.
  • Please report problems with this facility or equipment to the Library service desk. After hours, send email to bmlcirc@ucsd.edu.

Failure to adhere to these policies may result in temporary or permanent loss of access to the Graduate Study.
