What is the Annex?
The Annex is a warehouse in San Diego where the UCSD libraries keep lesser-used materials for storage. Currently, the Biomedical Library portion of the Annex includes most pre-1970 journals, some journals after 1970 for which we have contracted stable electronic access, or which ceased a number of years ago, as well as older books that have not been borrowed recently. Items from our collections stored in the Annex can be requested to be delivered to the library for your use.
Requesting Annex Items
To request BML materials from the Annex, use our online request form. Anyone may request Annex materials. (For books only, users with active borrower accounts at the libraries can also request books via Roger's Request feature, but the delivery will be slower)
Please only use our request form for "BML Annex" materials. We receive many Annex requests for materials that turn out not to be in that collection. If you are not sure whether the item you're looking for is at the Annex, in our regular collection or not held at UCSD at all, please contact us at (858) 534-3253 or biomed@ucsd.edu. It can save you time to check first.
Delivery Times Monday - Saturday: Requests received by 1:00 pm will be available at the Biomedical Library at 4:00 pm the same day. Requests received after 1:00 pm will be available at the library at 4:00 pm the following delivery day.
Annex pickups and deliveries generally do not take place on university holidays. When there is an unexpected problem with delivery, a notice is usually posted on our blog or on the request form itself.
