Ask A Librarian

Ask A Librarian: IM - BML

The Biomedical Library has accounts set up in four instant messaging (IM) services. If you use any of these services, please contact us using the screen names below. If you don't use any of these, or if you're not at your own computer, you can click on the box at right to launch an IM session using the Meebo "widget."

We'll be logged in at the computer at our reference desk, where librarians will receive messages.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Our screen names:

  • AOL: ucsdbiomed - AIM Online Status Indicator*
  • GoogleTalk: ucsdbiomed@gmail.com
  • MSN: ucsdbiomed@gmail.com - MSN Online Status Indicator*
  • Yahoo: ucsdbiomed - Yahoo Online Status Indicator*

* clicking one of these should activate that service's IM client software if it is installed on your computer.

Chat with BML
Please note: the chat box says you can leave us a message if we're offline. However, if you don't give us your email address, we won't be able to get back to you.

If there are people waiting for help in person or on the phone, we may ask you to wait a moment. If we are not online, your IM client should let you know that when you try to message us.

Three IM services also have their own web-based versions that may offer more features:
AOL: AIM Express
Google: Gmail now has a chat area built into the Gmail window.
MSN: Web Messenger
