UCSD-owned items circulate for an original loan period of 28 days. Items obtained from other lending institutions vary in length of loan, usually 15 to 28 days.
Most items can be renewed once. The renewal can occur at any time before the due date or within the first seven days after the due date for a $10.00 renewal fee. A $20.00 renewal fee will be charged for items renewed 8 days or more after due date.
If an overdue item is not returned or renewed by the due date, PLUS will allow a seven day grace period before assessing a $20.00 overdue fee per each partial, or complete loan period that the book is kept overdue. For example, a book returned 8 days after due date will be assessed a $20.00 overdue fee; a book returned 29 days after due date will incur a $40.00 fee.
Borrowing privileges of the patron or company will be suspended if an item has not been returned or renewed after 29 days past the original due date.
A $20.00 late fee will continue to accrue per each additional loan period, or part of a loan period that the item is kept overdue until the item is returned or claimed lost. In the event that an item is lost, patron must inform the PLUS office at 858-534-8622 or via e-mail at plus@ucsd.edu as soon as possible to avoid accrual of overdue fees.
Replacement fines from UCSD Campus or lending library will be billed to the patron at 60 days overdue.
The Bill will include UCSD or lending library's replacement fee, a $14 library fee, a $20.00 acquisition library processing fee and any overdue fines accrued.
If the book is returned before the replacement bill is paid the replacement fee will be waived, and all other charges will remain.
Once the book is returned or the replacement bill is paid borrowing privileges will be reinstated.
