Off Campus Access

UCSD faculty, staff, and students can use UCSD-licensed databases, electronic journals and e-books off campus.  Automatic Internet (IP) address checking of your computer connection is used to identify you as an authorized user.

There are two ways to set up your computer so you are recognized as an authorized user.

  1. Proxy Access
Provides access to electronic journals, web-based databases, etc.  Easy to set up.
  2. Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Provides access to the above plus client-server applications like Endnote connection files.

SciFinder and Reaxys (Beilstein &Gmelin) are now available on the web.  So you can use either of the above methods to use them off campus.  Details.

    VPN Troubleshooting Tips

    • If the following tips don't resolve your problem, Ask a Librarian.
    • Use the AnyConnect client and not the WebVPN if possible.  WebVPN is slower and not compatible with every resource.
    • In the VPN login screen, select "allthruucsd" as your group connection profile from the Group drop down menu.  We found that the "split" profile denied access to some library-licensed content.
