Off Campus Access

UCSD faculty, staff, and students can use UCSD-licensed databases, electronic journals and e-books off campus.  Automatic Internet (IP) address checking of your computer connection is used to identify you as an authorized user.

There are two ways to set up your computer so you are recognized as an authorized user.

  1. Proxy Access
Provides access to electronic journals, web-based databases, etc.  Easy to set up.
  2. Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Provides access to the above plus client-server applications like SciFinder Scholar, Beilstein, Gmelin, and Endnote connection files.

What Do You Have Access to?

The table below shows which library resources are available to UCSD faculty, students, and staff via on-campus computers, the proxy server and VPN, compared to what is available from off-campus computers not set up for remote access.
