Due to budget cuts, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library closed permanently on June 29, 2012. As a result, the Scripps Library book/journal collections will eventually be transferred to Geisel Library. Scripps Archives and special collections from Scripps Library, will remain on the third floor of the Eckart Building; use of those collections will be by appointment.
Though Scripps Institution of Oceanography loses a library facility on campus, the UC San Diego Library remains committed to supporting Scripps faculty, staff and students, and continues to develop electronic and print collections to support the Institution’s academic mission. Research and curriculum support services also continue to be available, by appointment. Please see information and contacts listed below.
Scripps Library Collections
Scripps Library book (monographs) and journal collections will be consolidated into the Geisel Library, in a process starting in July 2012. All held materials remain searchable within the Roger and Melvyl catalogs.
The Scripps Archives and Library Annex will include the Scripps Archives, rare books/serials, scientific expedition reports, and other special collections, including the Hubbs library and ocean charts and atlases. For appointment for use, see scrippsarchives.ucsd.edu or contact Peter Brueggeman pbrueggeman@ucsd.edu
Library Consultations, Instruction, and Outreach
The Scripps Library Instruction & Outreach Librarian, Amy Butros, will continue to provide research and curricular support for Scripps faculty, staff, and students. Amy will be available, by appointment, for consultations at an office in the Scripps Administrative Building (behind the old Snackropolis cafe).
