It is often difficult for scientists and their families to decide whether a collection of papers has long-term historical or scientific research value. Peter Brueggeman, the Scripps archivist, is always ready to examine collections and discuss their research potential.
Scripps Archives collects selectively the personal papers of SIO faculty, staff, administrators and other members of the community which include material documenting the personal and professional life of such individuals and/or include material documenting the history of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Scripps Archives collects selectively correspondence and other papers of individuals or organizations which will support research on the history of oceanography.
Scripps Archives collects official records of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography with long term administrative, legal, scientific and/or historical value. The Archives will receive and retain official SIO records scheduled for archival retention in the University of California Records Disposition Manual.
