The file documents the founding of the Marine Biological Association of San Diego, its growth and development as the Scripps Institution for Biological Research of the University of California and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The file also documents the contributions. in funds and service made to the founding and continued operation of the Scripps Institution by members of the Scripps Family. The file includes many documents essential to an understanding of the early history of the Scripps Institution, including original penciled drafts of the bylaws of the Marine Biological Association of San Diego and minutes of the Association.
