About the SSHL Library

The Social Sciences & Humanities Library (SSHL) provides a variety of scholarly resources to support faculty and students in Social Science and Humanities disciplines, ranging from political science and economics to philosophy and history. The Library’s collections include 1.5 million printed volumes, nearly 1 million government publications, thousands of maps, and a wide variety of scholarly journals, e-journals and online databases. SSHL offers UCSD students many individual and group study areas, individualized research consultations, and an active instruction and outreach program. Among its many services, SSHL houses an information commons and a Data and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Lab that provides students and faculty with access to numeric and spatial data and specialized software. SSHL holds one of the world’s largest collections of materials on the people, cultures, history, and languages of the southwest Pacific Islands region known as Melanesia.
