Chinese Studies

Collection Statement

The Chinese language collection was established as part of the East Asia Collection occupying the entire fourth floor of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library (SSHL). It focuses on collecting modern and contemporary Chinese language materials in the humanities and social sciences, including the arts, economics, geography, history, literature, music, political science, and sociology pertaining to China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This continuously expanding collection, in print, electronic, and other non-print formats, is rapidly becoming a new regional resource center for researchers and students in the field of Chinese studies.
The Chinese studies librarian also acquires English language materials in all formats related to Chinese studies. E-resources are online and can be easily accessed via Roger, UCSD’s online library catalog. Print and other format resources are housed either with the main collection through different floors within SSHL or with other library collections according to their specialty subjects and/or formats.
Additional Chinese and English language materials on or about contemporary Chinese economics, politics, business, markets and international relations are located at the International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) Library.
Collection Strengths: Chinese films (including Chinese underground films), Chinese e-resources, social sciences and humanities resources on modern and contemporary China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan
