Collection Statement
Although UC San Diego is not an official depository for San Diego-area government documents , the library selects San Diego-area government publications to support educational, research, and service programs of UC San Diego and the community at large. Some publications are sent automatically to the library and others are requested or purchased from the agencies that produce them as they are published. Many local government agencies now put most or all of their documents online.
Of special interest to the library are statistical, planning and financial/budgetary documents.
Primary agencies collected include:
- City of San Diego
- County of San Diego
- San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG)
Other agencies collected include:
- Cities of Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Del Mar, El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Marcos, Santee, Solana Beach, and Vista
- Caltrans District 11
- Metropolitan Water District
- Port of San Diego
- San Diego Geographic Information Source (SANGIS)
- San Diego Metropolitan Transit System
- San Diego Regional Energy Office
- San Diego Water Authority
- Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG)
The San Diego Documents collection is housed on the second floor of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library and cataloged with a locally-created call number system based on CALDOC numbers. There is also a small San Diego Documents Reference section, also organized by pseudo-CALDOC number, housed in the Social Sciences and Humanites Reference Collection.
A few select titles may be housed outside of the San Diego Documents collection, depending on how and when they were added to the library collections.
UC San Diego is currently participating in the Web at Risk pilot project by contributing crawls of San Diego-area government web pages.
