This program surveys the artistic phenomenon, manifested most notably in magical realism that came to be known as the Latin American Boom.  Viewers are guided through the work of Alejo Carpentier, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Juan Rulfo, and several others.

Modernismo was an aesthetic movement with an ambitious program: to remove the yoke of Romanticism and Neoclassicism, and to clarify Latin American identity.  As this program explains, Modernismo coincided with a surge in narratives growing out of struggles for independence.
