Academic Partnership Consultations

The library provides a space in its Geisel East Learning Commons (2nd Floor) for campus units who support or enhance student learning and success to be available regularly to meet with students.

We welcome inquiries from any campus unit about the possibility of their participation.

Who to Contact

  • Potential Academic Partners should inquire with the Learning Spaces Program's Outreach Specialist, Dorthea Stewart, at dsstewart@ucsd.edu or 858.534.8378 for details and reservations.

  • Alternately, contact Program Director, Kymberly Goodson, at kgoodson@ucsd.edu or 858.534.1271, if Dorthea isn’t available.

  • STUDENTS:  Wish a particular campus unit would be available in the library?  Let them know about this service, or send your suggestion to dstewart@ucsd.edu and we’ll inquire with them.

Space Offerings

The Academic Partnership Consultations space currently offers a round table and 3 chairs in a semi-private area.  While no computer is available, wireless and powered outlets are available.

The space contains a small lockable file cabinet in which Academic Partners can store needed office supplies, promotional/instructional materials, and the like. Obtain the file cabinet key from the Geisel East Learning Commons desk near the Academic Partnership Consultations space prior to your reservation period, and return it there immediately at the end of your reservation period or when leaving the consultations space. Be sure to lock the cabinet at the end of your reservation, as students and other campus units will use the space between your reservations. Do not store laptops, other technology, or expensive items in the cabinet, as they will be accessible by all other Academic Partners.  The cabinet is provided as a convenience to our Academic Partners, and the Library is not responsible for lost, missing, or stolen items. Please do not use or relocate supplies or items belonging to other Academic Partners.

We welcome any suggestions about additional equipment that might be useful in the space.

Guidelines

  • Once approved, Academic Partners may reserve the Academic Partnership Consultations Area to hold consultations in Geisel Library with 1-3 students at a time.  The area is not for larger group instruction or meetings.

  • Academic Partners may reserve the space for up to 3 hours per day, up to 2 days per week.

  • Academic Partners are encouraged to sign up for a regular time slot for the entire term (e.g. M/W/F from 1-3 pm) so that their availability can be advertised. Reservations for irregular time slots may also be available.

  • The weekly sign-up sheet will be posted at the Academic Partnership Consultations Area, so that walk-in students can identify whether/when campus units of interest may be hosting consultations in the library.
