CSA Instructions


Step 1: Download Citations from CSA databases

  1. Perform a search in any CSA database.
  2. To mark individual citations for downloading, click the box (  ) next to a record number to select it. To download all citations, skip to step 3.
         
  3. Click the  button.
  4. Select the Record Format from the Save/Print/Email screen (full record, citation, citation & abstract, etc.).
  5. Select the File Format (PC, Macintosh, or Unix) then click on
  6. Type in a file name in the Save As… box, adding .txt at the end of the file name, and note the Save in destination, e.g. Desktop, A:, etc.
  7. If you choose to email the records to yourself, you will have to copy the records into a text file and download the text file to a machine where you have EndNote installed.

Step 2: Importing References from a text file into EndNote

  1. Open an EndNote library or create a new one to store the records.
  2. From the File menu, select Import… to open the Import window.
  3. In the Import Data File: field, select the file you downloaded from CSA by clicking on Choose File.
  4. In the Import Option field, select the filter you would like to use to import your references. Since you downloaded your references from CSA, select Other Filters from the pull down menu, then select the file with the name of the database you searched and (CSA) after it. For example if you downloaded your data from CSA PsycINFO, you would select PsycINFO (CSA) as the filter. Note: if you do not find a filter for the specific database you downloaded citations from, click here to locate and download the appropriate database filter to add to your EndNote program.
  5. Under Duplicates, please select what you would like EndNote to do with any duplicate records found then click on Import.
