OCLC Instructions


Step 1: Import or Directly Export Citations from OCLC First Search.

  1. Perform a search in WorldCat.
  2. To mark individual citations for downloading, click the box ( ) next to a record number to select it.
  3. Click Export button at top of screen.
  4. Select records you want to export (records 1-10 or marked records).
  5. Under “Export to,” choose EndNote if you have EndNote 4 or above and are currently at the machine where you have the EndNote program loaded.  Otherwise, continue to step 9.
  6. Click on the Export button.
  7. EndNote will automatically open an prompt you to select a library where these references will be stored.
  8. You will then be prompted to select an import filter. Choose the OCLC filter.
  9. If you choose to save the records in a text file to import later, under “Export to,” choose Text File.
  10.  Click on the Export button.
  11. A “File downlownd” box will pop-up – choose Save. 
  12. Type in a file name in the Save As… box; and note the Save in destination, e.g. Desktop, A:, etc.
