Ovid Instructions

Step 1: Import or Directly Export Citations from Ovid databases into EndNote

  1. Perform a search in advanced search mode of any Ovid database.
  2. To mark individual citations for downloading, click the box (  ) next to a record number to select it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to view the Citation Manager.  If the citation manager you see does not look like this one then you are in basic search.  Conduct your search again in advanced search mode.
  4. Under “Citation Format,” choose Direct Export if you have EndNote 4 or above and are currently at the machine where you have the EndNote program loaded.  Then, select the Save button.  Otherwise, continue to step 5.
  5. Under “Citation Format,” choose Reprint/Medlars then select the Email or Save button to import your records later.
  6. If you choose to save the records in a text file, select Windows, Macintosh, or Unix format; type in a file name in the Save As… box; and note the Save in destination, e.g. Desktop, A:, etc.
  7. If you email the records to yourself, you will then have to copy the records into a text file and download the text file to a machine where you have EndNote installed.
