All UCSD Libraries, except the Medical Center Library, will be closed from December 24, through January 1, 2008 as part of the campus-wide Winter Holiday Closure. The Medical Center Library will be open December 27th and 28th. All libraries will reopen January 2.

The hours web pages have been updated to reflect hours for campus libraries both before and after the holiday closure. The recording at (858) 534-3336 also provides information on current hours.
Online Resources
The following online resources will be available during the closure. Students, staff and faculty must access restricted resources through the campus proxy server or VPN.
- Roger, the UCSD Libraries' catalog, will be available for remote access throughout the closure period.
- Melvyl: The UC Libraries' catalog will be accessible throughout the closure, however requests for items from other campuses may not be processed until January 2.

Renewing and Recalling Items (including ILL items)
- Eligible UCSD Library materials and eligible Circuit items may be renewed immediately using "My Library Account/Renew Items" in Roger.
- You may use the 'My ILL Requests' service to request renewals of eligible ILL materials. Please submit requests no later than December 14; do not submit renewal requests during the closure. Note that ILL renewals must be requested at least 7 days prior to the item's due date, must be granted by the lending institution, and are not guaranteed.
- Recall and Hold, Roger Request (aka Library Express Request), and Circuit requests may be submitted via Roger. All requests will be processed beginning January 2. We appreciate your patience for any delays.
Returning Items
If you would like to return items between December 24 and January 1, there is a drive-up book drop on Hopkins Lane, west of Geisel Library. Additional return book drops are located at the entrance of Geisel Library and at the Biomedical, the IR/PS, SIO,and Medical Center Libraries. Books from any library may be returned to any of these locations. Please note: If items are due shortly before or after the break period, you are encouraged to return them in person to a library circulation desk prior to or immediately after the closure.

Reference Assistance
Reference assistance online, by email or telephone, will be unavailable between December 23 and January 1. UCSD students, faculty and staff who send email inquiries or leave telephone messages during the closure period will receive replies starting on January 2. Queries will be answered in the order in which they were received.
Course Reserves
- Users may search the electronic reserves materials during the closure via the Course Reserves Website.
- Course lists may be submitted via the online form at any time. However, faculty are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible to help ensure that reserve materials are available when needed.
- Winter Quarter 2008 course reserve lists submitted by instructors using the online form between December 22 and January 1 will be processed in the order received starting on January 2. Course lists may be submitted via the online form.
Interlibrary Loan Requests
- Requests may be submitted via Melvyl Requests and the UC-eLinks Citation Linker, but those received December 22 through January 1, will be processed beginning January 2. We appreciate your patience for any delays.
- Due dates have been changed so that no items will be due during the closure period. However, if you would like to return items between December 24 and January 1, return book bins are located near the entrance of the Geisel Library and drive up book drops are located on Hopkins Lane, west of the Geisel Library.
- Renewals may be requested via the online form or via e-mail to the appropriate UCSD Interlibrary Loan Unit and will be processed beginning January 2. ILL renewals should be requested at least 7 days prior to the due date.
Circuit Requests
- Requests received after 10am on December 21 through January 1, will be processed beginning January 2.
