LIBRARY INSTRUCTION
Library Instruction Planning Guide
Librarians can assist faculty and instructors at all stages of teaching preparation. A list of the available instructional support services is available

The UCSD Libraries accomodate all requests for instruction in support of UCSD research and teaching. Reserve instruction sessions early to get your preferred date. Please try to give us at least two weeks notice and have alternative dates in mind in case your first choice is not available. 

Use the following time line as a guide to when you might request specifc types of library instructional support. 
1. Prior To The Teaching Quarter
Create course syllabus using Tips for Creating Effective Library Based Assignments.
Pre-test your assignments: Does library have all the needed materials?
Requistion textbooks from UCSD bookstore. Note: deadline is usually several months prior to quarter
Put course notes on soft reserves. Note: 8 weeks needed if copyright clearance required
Put Library items on course reserves if necessary
Create course web site.
Book Library Instruction if desired. 
  • Please provide as much advance notice as possible
2. During The Teaching Quarter
Provide library reference desk with a copy of assignments - Help us help your students 
Provide students with specific instructions on which library to use & when help is available
Attend library instruction session
3. After The Teaching Quarter
Meet with your instruction librarian to discuss results & plan for the next class session
