Need a break from long hours of studying? Give your mind a rest with one of our de-stress activities.
Shared puzzles have proven very popular with students. Stop by and complete a lot, or a little, of the puzzle. Puzzles are available in both the Geisel East & West Commons (2nd Floor), and are rotated regularly.
Chess and Scrabble tables are positioned near the windows in the Geisel East Learning Commons. Special thanks to the Friends of the UCSD Libraries for the gift of the chess table in 2002, and to R.O.P. Cabinetmaking for creating it.
Coloring pages, mazes, and word searches are available in the pamphlet rack near the service desk in the East Commons. Crayons and colored pencils are also available by request at the service desk.
Three large foam rollers are available in the Geisel East Commons for stretching and desk exercises. A handout showing several uses for the foam rollers is available in the pamphlet rack near the service desk, while details on a wealth of other uses can easily be found online. A second set of three foam rollers is available in the Brody Collaborative Space (Geisel 1st Floor Southwest).
Join your friends, make new ones, or come alone to Geisel’s East Commons on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during Weeks 4, 5, and 6 to take a break from studying and tests to build, color, create, and play. See details on the flyer below. Dates for the Fall 2016 term are:
· Construction Crew: October 18 & 25 and November 1
· Coloring Club: October 19 & 26 and November 2
· Game Group: October 20 & 27 and November 3
From 7-9 pm on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Finals Week, we offer an expanded ‘Stress-Free Zone’ in Group Study Room 2072 in Geisel’s East Commons. The activities above are available then, along with many others. Limited snacks are also provided. Watch for details near the end of each term (excluding summer). Dates for 2016-2017 are:
· December 5-7, 2016
· March 20-22, 2017
· June 12-14, 2017
Too much sitting? Take a walk with your book or laptop. Two WalkStations located in the Geisel East Commons feature low-speed treadmills with adjustable height worksurfaces. Book cradles and wrist rests are available for checkout in the Tech Lending Program.
The Zone's Resources & Relaxation (R&R) Squad generally offers chair massages for students in one or two locations within Geisel Library each term. Watch for signs during Weeks 3 & 4 indicating times and locations, or contact Michelle Vogelsang Jones for details.
