Gael Lundin Turnbull was born on April 7, 1928, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He received a B.A. from Cambridge University (1948) and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (1951). In addition to his career as a physician and anesthesiologist, he was also an accomplished poet who published over twenty volumes of poetry. In 1957, Turnbull started Migrant Press and its journal Migrant, which published modernist poetry by British and American poets. He died in England in 2004.
