Summary: José María Gutiérrez de la Torre was born in 1941 in Madrid. José María recounts his participation in the Marxist organization Proletario (Proletarian) in the 1960s. He describes his role in the production and distribution of anti-Francoist propaganda. José María relates that on April 4, 1966, he was detained, was taken to the Dirección General de Seguridad (General Security Directorate), and was tortured. He tells of being incarcerated in the Carabanchel Prison, where he took part in a hunger strike. As punishment, José María was transferred to a prison in Soria. He notes spending the last part of his sentence in the Segovia prison. Jose María was released on February 20, 1970.
