Lower House Elections Data
ID Identification number. Six digits. The first three digits
(starting with 001) are the district number, the next digit
is the party code. For conservatives the next digit is the
faction code. The final digit is a simple counter.
YEAR Year of election (coded as 1958, 1960, etc.).
KU Number of the district (See Appendix A).
MAG Number of seats in the district. Redistricting in 1967, 1976,
and 1986.
ELECTORS Number of registered voters in district. Source: Asahi
Newspaper Yearbook (Asahi Nenkan). The data coded are
"Tonichi yukensha," or registered voters as of the day
of the election.
NAME Name of the Candidate, 16 characters
HA Factional affiliation, conservative candidates only
0 = Missing Data
1 = Sato, Tanaka, Takeshita faction (change dates 1971, 1986)
2 = Kishi, Fukuda, Abe faction
3 = Ideda, Maeo, Ohira, Miyazawa faction
