The Arts Libraries Extreme Makover Continues!

As you may have noticed, things are starting to happen in the Arts Libraries in preparation for our exciting makeover which begins major construction in August…The goal of this renovation will be to have a single service (reference/information/reserves) desk, to consolidate collections, and to install new technology to support the delivery of new media to users.

In preparation for the summer 2008 demolition of the existing Art & Architecture Library and Film & Video Reserves space, some collections, services and staff will be temporarily relocated.
Collection moves include:

• Music books and scores (relocate to CPNM compact shelving)
• AAL & Music current periodicals (merge with SSHL current periodicals)
• AAL Reference (merge with Music Reference)
• AAL Controlled Circulation (relocate to Library Annex)

The good news is that almost all relocated collections will remain on the lower level of the west wing, primarily in the Current Periodicals, Newspapers and Microforms (CPNM) area. The only exception will be the AAL Controlled Circulation collection of books which will be housed at the Library Annex. Some collection moves were completed over winter break 2007 (music scores, current periodicals, AAL ConCirc).

The next big thing happens at the end of the spring quarter 2008 when the Film & Video Reserves will relocate to the Music, Film & Video services room. Stay tuned!!
