E-Books Survey: We Need Your Feedback!

The University of California Libraries are surveying UC faculty/academics, staff, and students about their preferences among print and e-books while doing academic work. This information is being gathered to assist the UC libraries in planning future purchases, programs and services. Your participation in this survey is both voluntary and invaluable.
Enter e-books survey NOW
Enter now from Monday, October 11, 2010 through Monday, October 25, 2010

The survey will at some points specifically ask about Springer e-books. It is not necessary for you to have used Springer e-books, or in fact any e-books, for your feedback to be valuable to us.
The survey can be accessed directly at: http://vovici.com/wsb.dll/s/aaeg467ab

It shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes and respondents who enter their name and email address will be entered into a drawing for one of five $50 gift certificates to the UCSD campus bookstore. Name and email addresses will not be used for any purpose beyond the drawing and will be destroyed after the drawing.

New CRCnetBASE interface, Roger links restored

The broken links in Roger to the individual books in the CRCnetBASE collections have been fixed.

The CRCnetBASEs have a new single interface for all of the collections except CHEMnetBASE (CRC Handbook of Chemistry & Physics, Combined Chemical Dictionary, etc.). You can see the new interface at http://www.crcnetbase.com. This new interface should resolve resolve many of the problems that occurred when users tried to access the PDF chapters.

  • CHEMnetBASE will undergo some updating, including improvements to the structure editors in the Combined Chemical Dictionary and component dictionaries.  However, it will it will not be moved to the new interface and will remain on its own domain for now.
  • The new home page lists all CRCnetBASE collections and titles, both what we have licensed and what we have not. When looking at the chapter level, chapters in licensed titles have green checks to the left and chapters in non-licensed titles have locks. It is possible when searching to specify to ‘Search Full Access Content Only’ to restrict search results to licensed content; however, it is not the default.
  • You can personalize your CRCnetBASE experience by becoming a registered user, so you can save searches and add chapters to a personal bookshelf for easy retrieval.

There may also be scattered titles in Roger where the links over to the e-book are still broken.  If you find any broken links or have other problems with CRCnetBASE, please contact Deborah Kegel, dkegel@ucsd.edu.
