Loan Rule Changes: Get More Time with Your Books

As a result of library collections and service consolidations, the UC San Diego Library has reviewed loan periods in order to harmonize them across collections and to accommodate changes in user needs. For academics and students, this means you will have longer checkout periods for books.

For Geisel Library (including the Science & Engineering collection) and Annex materials, the following changes to loan periods will go into effect August 28, 2012:

  • Circulating Books
    • UC Academics: 1 year
    • UC Graduate Students: 1 year
    • UC Undergraduates: 90 days
    • UC Staff: 90 days
  • Circulating Bound Journals
    • Everyone: 1 week
  • Renewals
    • Everyone: 6 renewals

The S&E Popular Science Collection will continue with 4-week checkout periods for everyone. The checkout periods for the Biomedical Library will remain the same (28 days for all users, library use only for bound journals), but you will also get 6 renewals on their circulating books as well.

If you have any questions or comments about this new policy, please contact Jason Schulz, Circulation Services Manager, at jtschulz@ucsd.edu or 858-822-0206 or Catherine Friedman, Associate University Librarian, at crf@ucsd.edu or 858-534-1278.
