Metadex Database Cancellation, December 1

The S&E Library is ending our subscription to Metadex database [Metals Abstracts] effective December 1, 2011.  This decision was based on several factors, including the database’s high cost vs. low usage, and the high overlap with our other databases. Alternative databases for metals research include: Compendex (engineering), INSPEC (physics & engineering), SciFinder (chemistry & materials science—registration required), Web of Science (overall science & engineering).  For the remaining time left in our UCSD subscription, please search and retrieve the citations you need to support your research and coursework.  After December 1, a librarian will be available if you require a mediated search of Metadex through DIALOG or STN. We will need a UCSD budget number for the recharge.

Our 2011-2014 strategic plan calls for a re-envisioning of library space, collections, and resources. Ultimately, our goal is to meet the fiscal challenges while continuing to be leaders in providing and promoting information resources and services to the UCSD community.

If you have any questions about database alternatives for Metadex, please feel free to contact us.
