National Academies Press Puts Books Online for Free

The National Academies Press (NAP), publisher for the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council, announced this week that it would offer its entire PDF catalog of books for free, as files that can be downloaded by anyone. The press is the publishing arm of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council, and publishes books and reports that scientists, educators, and policy makers rely on. The press’s mission is to disseminate its content as widely as possible while maintaining financial stability.
