Online SciFinder Training, Oct-Dec

Online training workshops from Chemical Abstracts, for new and experienced SciFinder searchers alike:

  • Please note that all times listed below are in Eastern Standard Time.
  • You will need a SciFinder account, which you already have if you are currently using SciFinder. If not, you can start that process here.
  • To register for these and other complimentary training opportunities in the CAS Learning Solutions resource center. You will also need to create an account in their Learning Solutions system. Or you can register at the CAS Webex site (select the Training Center tab).

Open Practice Sessions
Experiment with search strategies at Open Practice Sessions. Use CAS computers, software and login IDs to explore SciFinder’s Web interface during these complimentary 2-hour sessions. No formal training or presentation is delivered, but search experts are available to answer questions and offer suggestions.

  • Formulate a research topic query
  • Sort, analyze, and refine reference answer sets

SciFinder Introduction to Substance Searching

In this 1-hour, hands-on session (followed by 30 minutes of open practice), you will learn how to search for substances by:

  • Substance identifier
  • Molecular formula
  • Exact structure
  • Substructure

SciFinder: Search by Reaction Substructure
October 27, 1:30-3:00 p.m. EST
November 17, 1:30- 3:00 p.m. EST
December 15, 1:30- 3:00 p.m. EST

In this 1-hour, hands-on session (followed by 30 minutes of open practice), you will learn how to search for substances by:

  • Define a reaction substructure query
  • Analyze and refine reaction answer sets
  • Change reaction answer set display
  • Send reactions and references to SciPlanner
  • Retrieve commercial sources for substances
  • Create a Keep Me Posted (KMP) profile
