News about the Collections

In support of its Strategic Plan, the UC San Diego Library aims to transform collections and scholarly communications to support the university’s learning and research programs in a digital environment.

Update on UC/NPG discussions

The joint UC Libraries- UCOLASC negotiating team that has been meeting with Nature Publishing Group since August of 2010 has issued an update: [http://osc.universityofcalifornia.edu/npg/NPG_Statement_2012_02_13.pdf] on these discussions that is intended to fulfill two purposes:

  1. To update the UC community on the status of the UC Libraries contract with NPG, including our decision not to license any additional NPG journals at this time
  2. To articulate for UC faculty and other UC and community stakeholders a set of goals and aspirations for the development of a more open scholarly communication system.

The team will be continuing to meet with NPG over the course of the year in hopes of developing a more definitive approach to the future of UC’s licensing (and authorial) relationship with NPG, ideally one that takes these potential future directions into account. Updates will be posted here as they are available.
