A selection of digitized records from the Chancellor's subject files maintained by the Policy and Records Administration documenting all aspects of the administration of UC San Diego; including records from the Office of the Chancellor, the Office of the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Business Affairs, as well as selected materials from the offices of the Vice-Chancellor for Administration and the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
The Chancellor is UC San Diego's chief administrative officer and has general authority across the university. He or she is responsible for establishing UC San Diego's administrative structure and ensuring that it functions responsibly and efficiently. In 1972 the Office of the Chancellor created a central filing system that was to collect records from various administrative offices. This central filing system became what is now Policy and Records Administration (formerly called Administrative Records).
The subject files document the administrative decisions that have directed the development of UC San Diego and evidence the activities of individual departments and other units of campus operation. The files include incoming correspondence, copies of some outgoing correspondence, memos, notes, and other materials pertaining to a given subject. Prominent subjects include the development of the campus, departments, and academic programs, the activities and affairs of departments, committees, faculty, and students, and current events concerning the campus and surrounding communities. - Creation Date
