Guidelines for Donating Materials to the UC San Diego Library

We accept on a selected basis:

• Books and other research materials
• Personal research papers
• Manuscripts and letters
• Datasets
• Media (DVD and Blu-Ray)

We do not generally accept:

• Medical and health sciences materials older than 5 years
• Outdated textbooks
• Popular books or reprints
• Magazines and commonly available journals
• Vinyl sound recordings
• Materials already in our collection
• Materials in poor condition

• Personal manuscripts, letters, research papers, etc. - Special Collections & Archives

Alternatives for donating materials UC San Diego Library does not accept:

• Duplicative research materials may be of interest to SDSU, USD or Cal State San Marcos
• San Diego Public Library (offers pick-up and drop-off services)
• Better World Books accepts donations and offers a drop box service
• Charitable donations to Goodwill, Amvets, etc (may offer pick-up services and receipts for tax itemization)
