Minority students leaders want administrators to implement a list of 32 demands immediately. They want officials to fix what they call a racial state of emergency. Students say the racially derogatory incidents speak to a larger problem of institutional racism on campus" (Tintocalis, 2010).
State of Emergency: The UCSD Black Student Union Address PREFACE: "It is with IMMEDIATE CONCERN and URGENCY that a state of EMERGENCY must be declared in order to address hostile and toxic campus climate being faced by various communities of color at the University of California, San Diego. This issue now merits substantive administrative action. In order to begin transforming this campus climate we must establish a base from which to build" (Black Student Union "State of Emergency" Address, 2010).
