Off-Campus Access

Most of our e-journals, databases and electronic reserve materials are restricted so that only current UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students can use them off campus. Eligible users desiring off-campus access must configure their electronic devices by using one of the options below:

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPN AnyConnect (client)

VPN AnyConnect is the preferred way to access the Library's resources from off campus. However, you cannot use AnyConnect if you cannot load client software on your computer.

Download VPN AnyConnect for:

VPN EasyConnect (web-based)

VPN EasyConnect does not require you to install any software on your computer. It is fast and simple to use, however there are some caveats:

  • EasyConnect does not work with the following resources:
    • ArtSTOR
    • SciFinder
    • Reaxys
  • Some database features may not work in the following:
    • ProQuest databases
    • PubMed
  • You cannot type URLs into your browser's address bar
  • You cannot use bookmarks

To use EasyConnect,

  1. Go to
  2. Enter your Active Directory (AD) username and password.
  3. Select EasyConnect from the Group drop-down menu, and click Sign On.

Proxy Server

The proxy server can be used for access to e-journals and web-based databases.

UC San Diego username and password are required for both options. See Getting or Changing Your UCSD Password if you don't know your username or password.
